Paris raises Nantes and the Champions Trophy / Champions Trophy / PSG-Nantes (4-0) /

Thanks to a violent success without forcing against the winner of the Coupe de France (4-0), the PSG of Christophe Galtier – sharpened like Neymar and Leo Messi – succeeded in its entry into the matter, validated its first victory and even snatched his first trophy, in Tel Aviv.

PSG 4-0 FC Nantes

Goals: Messi (22e), Neymar (45e+2, 82e SP) & Ramos (57e) for PSG
Sent off: Castelletto (81e) for Nantes

Like every season, the Professional Football League had ticked the weekend where July and Augustians meet to promote France internationally and run its business, on the occasion of a big circus somewhere in a corner of the globe. A football match is played by two teams, but as often during this first round of the season, there is only PSG. In the field, the directives were followed to the letter – unlike last season with LOSC – and the French champion, for the first time under the orders of Christophe Galtier in competition, was able to feast (4-0) in order to begin a potential harvest of trophies in 2022-2023. FC Nantes was only one sparring partner and generally fulfilled the role, offering two-three minor thrills at the start of the game, taking the blows and cracking little by little over the first period. To leave it to Neymar, Leo Messi and the others to kiss a trophy that continues to drift away, year after year, from what French football thrills the crowds for.

Ney to shine

Just after 8 p.m., we were treated to a first Parisian waltz and a first miracle by Alban Lafont (5e), then a high-flying action by Marco Verratti and Pablo Sarabia (9e). After a forced attempt by Ludovic Blas, Marquinhos shook the Nantes bar following a corner (14e). Nantes raised the tone with the voice of its metronome Blas, author of a cross which brought Moses Simon to tickle the Parisian upright (18e), but above all from a mine in first intention that Gianluigi Donnarumma removed from the telescope (19e). Just as Nantes were gaining confidence, a Neymar opener deflected by poor Pedro Chirivella sent Leo Messi knocking out Lafont and kicking off his season with a bang (1-0, 22e). Endangered by the Ile-de-France pistons or by the Ney, reported offside (40e), the Canaries responded with Evann Guessand, whose point-blank shot – on a cross from the inevitable Blas – was deflected in extremis by Presnel Kimpembe (41e). The Pulga then saw the Nantes goalkeeper refuse him the double (44e).

But the break could not be prevented, when after being fouled by the comeback Moussa Sissoko at the perfect place for his right foot, Junior put the ball down and deposited it in the top corner, reassembled 2017 (2-0, 45e+2). One-sided, the second act was not as intense – despite the thrusts of an Achraf Hakimi who whistled the whole match – but as soon as Paris used the nitro, the Yellow and Green took on drafts , Sergio Ramos slamming a cheeky backheel under Nicolas Pallois’ nose after a perfect move from Verratti and Hakimi (3-0, 57e). The ghostly entry of Mostafa Mohamed – FCN’s new Egyptian number nine – did not change anything and after an opportunity crunched by Juan Bernat (77e), Neymar caused the exclusion of Jean-Charles Castelletto and took his revenge on Lafont in the eleven-meter event (4-0, 82e). The ex-Toulouse still had the strength to stop a dive from Messi (88e), in the same way that Donnarumma succeeded in his clean sheet against the restless Moses Simon (90e+1). For Christophe Galtier, revenge is a dish best served cold. Precisely 85 days later.
