do you know the most beautiful “secret destinations” in Europe?

Among these treasures listed by European Best Destinations, three of them are in France.

Tired of destinations where you can’t take a step without seeing a tourist taking a selfie? Tired of sharing your beach towel with other vacationers? It’s time to think outside the box. As you already know, Europe is not limited to (very) tourist destinations and is full of little treasures. The European Best Destinations (EBD) site has just listed its 12 most beautiful “secret destinations” in the Old Continent still spared by mass tourism in 2022. At a time when many French people are still hesitating about the ideal destination for their next vacation , this enumeration of places to discover arrives at peak.

Rather Georgia…

Unknown destination, the city of Batumi was placed at the top of the list by respondents. Third city of Georgia and capital of the autonomous region of Adjara, it has become one of the main seaside resorts of the Black Sea. On its site, EBD praises the historic streets of the old city center ideal for “lounging” but also its architecture among “the most daring in all of Europe”. Athletes will also find their account here since the city lends itself to long bike rides or canyoning in the neighboring mountains of Adjara.

…or Spain?

Have you already booked your holiday in Spain? Forget Barcelona, Madrid and Seville and take the time to make a detour to Torrevieja, on the Costa Blanca, to discover one of the most surprising places in southern Europe. Here, the lake, prohibited for swimming, is characterized by pink-colored water.

150 kilometers further north, still in Spain, Moraira is an oasis of calm in a very touristy region. “Far from the crowds, from the soulless buildings, this family seaside resort on the water is what you need for a relaxing holiday under the sun of the Spanish coast”, notes European Best Destinations.

Heading north, stop at Calella de Palafrugell. It is the “perfect destination” for those who want to escape the city and enjoy a moment of idleness “in a sublime former fishing village as well.” To top it off, the village is also famous for the “beauty of its coves and small beaches”.

For those who prefer Italy, EBD highlights Pietrapertosa one of the most beautiful villages located on the other side of the Alps but also Rio Marina, a place “of rare beauty, nestled between the sea and the mountains”, in Tuscany.

France, the best represented country

Like Spain, France also has three treasures in this ranking. The charming village of Bauduen (Var) which opens onto Lake Saint-Croix is one of them and remains the ideal place to discover the Gorges du Verdon. Still in the Var, European Best Destinations also approves Port Grimaud. Tourists who love old stones, narrow streets and typical Provençal villages will be served. Finally, facing the Cannes Croisette, Sainte-Marguerite Island is “the icing on the cake”. “The largest of the Lérins Islands, Sainte-Marguerite Island is described by its tourist office as a destination of serene beauty,” writes EBD. We hope your choice is made.
